Magnolia zenii to endemiczna dla Chin odmiana magnolii. Zagrożona jest wyginięciem w stanie naturalnym skąd pochodzi, znaleziono tylko 18 okazów (!) Stan z 1998 r.
Dokładna jej lokalizacja to prowincja Jiangsu, północne zbocze Gór Baohua na wysokości 220 m n.p.m.
Znajduje się na światowej Czerwonej Liście IUCN gatunków krytycznie zagrożonych wyginięciem. Na świecie pojedyncze okazy można zobaczyć w niektórych ogrodach botanicznych, a w Polsce jeden egzemplarz znajduje się w Arboretum SGGW w Rogowie. Warto mieć taki unikatowy okaz w swojej kolekcji.
Kwitnie wiosną przed rozwojem liści, kwiaty wydzielają przyjemny zapach. Po kwitnieniu zawiązuje ozdobne owocniki - szyszki. Liście jasnozielone, sezonowe.
Korona szeroka, zaokrąglona, często nisko rozgałęziająca się. W naszych warunkach klimatycznych dorośnie do wysokości około 3-5 m; w stanie naturalnym nawet do 11 m.
Cieszymy się niezmiernie, że możemy przyczynić się do rozpowszechniania tych cennych okazów 'Magnolii zenii'.
